Pneumatics

In the lecture Tutor explained about pneumatics that is parts of the gas pressurised technology to create the mechanical motions by hydraulics and compressor. Pneumatic systems are used mostly in industry and factory with compressed air or inserted gas because compression of air or gas can transfer into mechanical motions then we can converts the motions to electricity energy safely as well as in cheaper way. 

Engineer also use this Pneumatic systems for mechanical and sheet metal such as drilling the sheet metal or nailing and making the motor works.

Instruction of using metal machine & tools safely

I was showed, in the lecture, how to use a metal machine in safe manner to create the object and shapes of the metal parts which can be useful for machines. Next tutor took us to the metal workshop, explained the instruction to use the machine safely. He showed us the instruction of using guillotine, bending machine and Lathe machine.


 Then he told us to practice what we learn from the lecture about how we can creates metal shapes with mechanical machine safely by showing not to touch the spinning spindle and wok piece to protect my self and others from injuries when we were working in workshop.


First i learned that Lathe machine is operate mainly by the spinning spindle with chuck that attached to work pieces, then letting the cylinder work pieces getting in contact with the cutting tools to create the symmetrical shape out of it. I can also 
drill a hole into cylinder as well as taking small materials out side the rod. You can make a steel ring, furniture or car engine gears. Lathe can shape many material such as plastic, woods and Steels.









Next i leaned about using guillotine machine, in safe manner, that is used for cutting sheet metal and steels. There are physical guillotine which you have to use your physical force to cut the sheet metal and there is electric powered guillotine that is not required the physical force. 

The one that i used was the physical guillotine it function by laying sheet metal on bed, next insert the sheet metal under the blade then i have to put my leg force into blade handle to cut the sheet.




Tutor showed us how to use the hand folding sheet metal machine in safely. it worked by opening the metal clamp by pulling the clamp hinge bar upward, next insert the sheet metal between bed and metal clamp. Close the clamp down to hold the sheet metal against bed and clamp by pulling the hinge bar handle downward again. 


Finally A hinged bending "leaf" is lifted to fold the metal around the fulcrum point of the clamping bar to the desired angle which is controlled using a stop rod.  A box and pan brake machine is needed to avoid having the metal hit against the clamping bar when the 3rd and 4th sides are being bent. This is done by removing a "finger" from the clamping bar at each end of the box since the clamping bar is divided up into many sub-assemblies called "fingers". 

 




I also learned the instruction to use hole punch tool to create holes out of a sheet metal by putting sheet metal underneath the pin then pressing the handle to put the hold to the sheet.

then I created my own my sheet metal parts with guillotine, metal folder and hole punch tools as tutor told me to do.











Tutor also showed us the  XYZ Mini Mill which functioned similar to the Lethe machine except that it can be create any shape just using drilling pin to drill out the small pieces out of the block.  











This machine is function when the engineer insert the data of the design of the shape they want to make by make into the machine system.

Instruction of writing an official engineering Reports

17 / 03 / 2014 Monday

Tutor explained to me and his students to write an officials Engineering Reports using 2000 words with my own choice of engineering topics for parts of my course marks. He explained us with the presentation of the instruction of writing proper Engineering Reports which can be understood by all the engineers.

1st Tutor Explained to me the purpose of writing Engineering Reports is to practice communicating in writing:

On paper, in a formal, standardised style



Living up to professional expectations 

He explained that if you start writing now you will have an essential engineering report writing skill in the future for University or professional works. It is important that report is written presentably because it is for communicating efficiently and getting your message across countries. Making sure the reader remembers the purpose of the message except mistake.


That's why there are other instructions you must follow to create the best reports which is showed below by the tutor presentation:






















































Tutor told us that my engineering blog is counted as 40 percents for engineering system module and the deadline will be in 4th of april 2014. Another 60 percents of my marks for the engineering system module will be assessed on my Engineering Reports and the deadline will be in 2nd of may 2014.

instruction of using wood machine safely

I learn the way to use Wood works machine by the technicians who showed me how to use the machine safely to avoid injuries, for creating the shapes of the mechanical parts  it's important to starts practice creating the shapes of the mechanical parts by wood block with the design shapes given by the tutor.

The wood machine instructor told me that most of the machine are Labeled to 3 colour code:

Green labelled machines can be use by students without instructor and 
they can ask for from the workshop technician if need be.

Amber labeled ones are also used by students only under the supervisor of the technician.


Red labelled ones are for staff usage only.


To make a design shape out of wood block, start of with cutting the thin layer of wood block of with the circular saw then cut it to small size with circular saw which is instructed by the tutors and machine instructor for my safety.




  Then using the jigsaw and drills, i've made a key wood blog as by following the safety instruction of machine showed by supervisor.















understanding how the motors work



Tutor explain in the lecture about how we can convert the mechanical energy to electric energy and electric energy to mechanical energy using the DC motor. Then tutor show us the picture of the parts of small electric DC motor size to understand how it function with magnet, coil and electricity. I also learn what makes the motor spin and the components that mess the motor rotate.

industrial programming and Control system

Tutor showed me how to make a code using PLC software then he gave me the list of machine movements and i have to make a code for the machine to function correctly then I learn to make computer code with the software programme(PLC) for starting the industrial machine. Next put the code into test by using smaller version of the machine to check if the code is making the machine functioning the way i wanted.

The PLC program are commonly used in industry for the machine to operate automatically just by controlling with the computers for efficient and faster way to operate machine.

Tutor explained to me about different type of switches such as single pole single throw (SPST) only function for 1 way however there are other type of switch called single pole double throw (SPDT), double pole double throw (DPDT) and double pole single throw (DPDT). Those type of switches are mostly used in the computer system for multitasking so machine can function 2  things at once.
